2009 Sister City Committee Formation Posted on September 26th, 2009 by

The 2009 Sister City Committee is well underway with new projects and coordinating reciprocal visits between Petatlán and St. Peter. This year’s committee members include: Tim Strand, Mario Lanas, Karla Marz, Violeta Hernandez, Carolyn O`Grady, Sheila Anderson, Jeffrey Rathlef, and Chaz Brown.

Sister City Committees have been formed in both St. Peter and  Petatlán and have identified the following 5 areas of coordination to form the foundation of the Sister City relationship:

  • Agriculture/Ecology
  • Culture
  • Education
  • Health
  • Tourism

Each community is organizing a small delegation to perform an exploratory visit in the other sister city. The St. Peter delegation will be in Petatlán from October 3-9, 2009 and the itinerary of their stay is found below:

~Saturday, October 3 – Arrival, food and getting situated in facilities (free evening).

~Sunday, October 4 – The Culture Committee has prepared a showing of an unpublished movie about the Mexican Revolution, photo outting and tour through the “casa de cultura.” In the evening they will attend “Domingo Cultural” where they will see/observe some local cultural expressions. The Culture Committee will present their St. Peter exchange project this day.

~Monday, October 5 – Visit to the Technical University starting at 8:00am. The food will be prepared by university alumni and accommodations will be on the university campus. They will present the education proposal this day (free evening).

~Tuesday, October 6 – The Education Committee will be providing a tour of the other schools in the area (free afternoon/evening).

~Wednesday, October 7 – The Tourism Committee will be providing a tour of the most well-known places of the area. In the evening the Ecology Committee will host the delegation at the Valentin Sea Turtle Camp. Both the Tourism and Ecology Committees will present their proposals this day.

~Thursday, October 8 – This day is dedicated for the mayors and program coordinators to meet and talk about expectations and dates in order to officially form the Sister City relationship. Any other matters will be discussed this day.

~Friday, October 9 – Free day and farewell at the airport.

Soon after being hosted in Petatlán the St. Peter Sister City Committee will be hosting the small delegation from Petatlán while they spend 6 days exploring the City of St. Peter. Stay tuned for more information regarding this visit!
