Final days in Petatlán Posted on October 11th, 2009 by

It has been great to see all of the encouraging comments from the community, and we are glad that people are enjoying our updates…

Unfortunately we were not able to keep up with the blog as well as we would have liked to during the last few days in Petatlán. For this reason we are writing this blog entry from back home in St. Peter.

We arrived home late last night after spending half of a day touring Ixtapa and Zijuantenejo (the two bigger cities near Petatlán). On Thursday we spent the day with local government officials of Petatlán. We had a meeting where everyone was able to share their impressions of the city, and Mayor Tim Strand gave a brief presentation of what the City of St. Peter is like. Everyone involved in the meeting was very interested in what St. Peter was like and overall the meeting was very productive in communicating the possible areas of cooperation between the two cities. After meeting with the government officials we were given a tour of DIF, the government social service outreach program. Our last night in Petatlán we spent at a home stay where we were able to spend an evening relaxing and getting to know what life in the town is like on a daily basis.

The St. Peter Sister City Committee members are currently getting ready to host our Petatlán guests. Keep checking the blog for updates on their visit to St. Peter and any other events that are being planned for this initiative.

Here are a few photos of what we were up to during our last couple days in Petatlán:

Wow- sounds and looks like it was a great, action-packed, trip for the St. Peter delegation! I am excited for the next steps in the Sister City Initiative. Now that the delegation from Petatlán is coming next week, it’ll be St. Peter’s turn to shine and give back. I think this will be a great opportunity for the St. Peter community and hope people from the community will take advantage of it. Thanks for all the updates!
